No other artist, who emerged after Sitti in the OPM industry, is truly deserving of the accolade. Gaining a wide acceptance for the genre is an accidental job that Sitti accomplished remarkably. "When I was offered this project, I was happy because Warner Music let me sing bossa in which I'm very much at ease with. I feel I was lucky to be the first one to do it" says Sitti

Sensing that the genre was fast picking up in the retail market, other labels and artists immediately jumped into the bandwagon. A surge of bossa CDs and bossa-fied OPM tunes were released overnight and new bossa artists followed Sitti's career path. New discoveries attempted to dislodge her as the Queen Of Bossa but were only dismayed when Sitti remained to be a hot favorite in the industry. Inspite of the many threats to her career, Sitti was unmindful of it. "I just enjoy doing bossa beats. I don't pressure myself of the competition. I'm glad that opened the doors for others. I believe the more we are, the merrier we would be" confessed Sitti.

Sitti's sunny disposition about her career has consistently made her a stand-out in this generation of bossa. She recently scored a twin musical feat with her maiden CD, Café Bossa that turned double platinum and its follow-up CD, Sitti Live! has reached gold. Sitti was awarded by Warner Music Philippines for these achievements in a special segment of ASAP over ABS-CBN last Sunday, February 11. Both CDs are certified hotsellers that dominated overall sales at number upon its releases. The continued bossa craze in the circuit is seen to trigger more sales for Sitti's albums.

A limited edition of Café Bossa is now available at the music market featuring Sitti's music videos of "Para Sa Akin," "Hey Look At The Sun" and "I Didn't Know I Was Looking For Love" and EPK/Behind The Scenes. As an added attraction it also contains previously unreleased MTV Sessions on VCD.

Nina

<img style="FLOAT: left; Growing up, Nina, much like any aspiring singer, admired Mariah Carey, Whitney Houston, Alicia Keys and Gary V., Ella Mae Saison, and Regine Velasquez on the home front.

Nina stands barely over five feet but her vocal prowess can stand up to a tidal wave. As far as she can remember, Nina has always been in the solemn presence of music. Her dad, Filbert, is a member of the Bayanihan Boy’s Choir and her mom, Maria Daulet, plays the piano. She was five, singing in a corner when her dad gave her special notice. Intensive vocal training was the next chapter -- belting with her body submerged in a drum of water (hence, the tidal wave) and exercising those vocal chords early in the morning.

Indeed, hard work and dedication pay off — eventually. She was a 7-week champion at the most successful singing competition in the country, Tanghalan ng Kampeon—the undisputed springboard for fresh talent. Before casting glorious light on the bleak music scene, pop and R&B find, Nina, found satisfaction soothing tired souls at the local clubs. Songs of love and loss, songs of firsts and lasts all delivered with intense passion and fiery emotion. Whatever the message, the effect is lasting, overwhelming. She can wail with the power of a crashing tidal wave or whine with the softness of a trickling rainfall. Waxing poetic describing vocal range can only mean one thing—when she sings, expect to be moved in ways you never imagined.

Her claim to fame isn’t only her voice but the story behind her discovery. The demo tape she submitted to Warner Music Philippines sampled her rendition of Foolish Heart. It was at that moment when hearing the tape, Warner Music executives immediately realized her potential and signed her without even actually seeing the woman behind the voice. The rest was, as we know it, history.

<img width='1' height='1' MYMP

MYMP is one of the favorite acoustic acts in the country today. They play smooth, soothing acoustic renditions of past hits like Especially For You, Bob Marley's Waiting In Vain and Sting's Every Little Thing.

Originally, MYMP was a 4-piece all-guy rock band. Then later on became a show band, to a trio, which opened their doors to having a debut album. Their biggest break came when Raymond Ryan, iFM's station manager, watched one of their gigs and met up with a producer to produce their album, Soulful Acoustic, which now garnered a Platinum Award. Later on, Ivory Records took MYMP under their wing and their debut album was released on Ivory Music and Video's 20th
anniversary.

MYMP's carrier single "A Little Bit" invaded the airwaves and bagged the People's Choice "Favorite Song" Award in Awit Awards 2004. Who could also miss their originals Miss You and Could be Wrong.

The trio of MYMP clicked but one member of the group had to leave in February 2004. Now, Chin and Juris together with Andrew and John as their bassist and kahonista has swept the country by storm! They will invade The Big Dome on November 18, 2005 for MYMP… Best.

MYMP launched two more albums, Beyond Acoustic which showcased their versatility and Versions which proved their capability. Both albums had 12 best seller tracks. MYMP Versions has recently been declared a Certified Gold Record after less than a month.

Lead singers Juris and Chin have indeed turned our worlds upside down with the kind of music they deliver. Juris Fernandez should have been in the medical field following her mother's footsteps after earning a degree in Psychology. Chin Alcantara, along with Andrew and John, are Communication Arts majors

Chin Alcantara, on vocals, considers Jimi Hendrix, SRV, Mr. Big and Led Zepelin as his musical influences. He studied in Miriam College and was born on March 12. He goes for blue-based rock like Eric Clapton and Sting's kind of music.

Julie Iris Fernandez, better known as Juris, considers Lea Salonga her musical influence. She was born March 18 and studied in Ateneo de Davao and Miriam College. She also likes Alicia Keys, Destiny's Child, Avril Lavigne and Patti Austin.

John Angeles is MYMPs drummer, who is a big fan of the Dave Matthews band. Their bassist Andrew Advincula on the other hand considers Duran Duran and Weather Report as his musical icons. Then there's Zac Bernardino on electric guitar.

MYMP has already released three CDs: Versions, Beyond Acoustic and the double CD Versions and Beyond. Aside from these, their songs have topped charts of both radio stations and record bars.

Eraserheads

Tikman mp3
Sinturong Pangkaligtasan mp3
Overdrive mp3
Maskara mp3
Maling akala mp3
Magasin mp3
Alapaap mp3
Toyang mp3
Ligaya mp3
Para sa masa mp3
With a smile mp3

The Band

A dozen years ago, four brilliant but then underrated musicians cast rocks into a pond. Then lo and behold! Instead of causing ripples, it created a tsunami that swallowed everything in sight.

They were The Eraserheads. The pond was Original Pilipino Music. And the tsunami? Pop alternative-----proudly Pinoy, made flesh then and has dwelt among us since. The end. Not.

Years after Ely Buendia, Raymund Marasigan, Buddy Zabala and Marcus Adoro a.k.a. Eraserheads have parted ways, the music of the acknowledged flag bearer of Pinoy pop alternative music continues to course through the veins of the generation they defined. It’s all because they made nine groundbreaking studio albums that collectively sold more than a million copies; churned out, oh, only more than two dozen hit singles that composed the collective soundtrack of a nation and; won every imaginable award the industry could give them.

And though some of their disciples seem to have moved on to R&B or acid jazz, trance or acoustic music, and maybe even other pop alternative bands, make no mistake about it: All still feel "Ligaya" and welcome "Toyang" "With A Smile" when they see her "Minsan" during "Sembreak;" standing under a "Maselang Bahaghari" in the "Alapaap," just above the "Tindahan Ni Aling Nena" beside the "Magasin" stand where she dances "Ang Huling El Bimbo" in "Overdrive." "Wag Mo Nang Itanong," "Pare Ko."

Itchyworms

Love Team mp3
Beer mp3
Buwan mp3
Beer Lite mp3

The Band

On the surface, the Itchyworms have always been a bunch of jovial and funny guys. Their distinct sense of humor is quite known, if not legendary among their friends and peers who have known them from their college days in the Ateneo.

But as musicians, the foursome are deadly serious. The band came out at a time when furious and tuneless rap-metal was on the verge of breaking into local rock radio. In the midst of all the cacophonous aggression, the Itchyworms wrote and performed catchy music with actual melodies. But these weren’t mere pop songs; the band’s arrangements displayed a certain depth and complexity that would make the most fickle musician take notice. I remember when they first performed “Mellow Carousel” and “Chocophotoland” sometime in ’99; I thought, wow, these guys are good.

A debut album, Little Monsters Under Your Bed, soon appeared the following year, earning them the Best New Artist accolade at that year’s NU107 Rock Awards. But they probably deserved more than that. Little Monsters was a fine work that showcased the ‘Worms’ foremost strengths: smart songwriting, musical inventiveness, and apparent technical ability. But the album didn’t quite take off for reasons we will never comprehend, despite the strength of its singles “Happy Birthday,” “Antipara,” and “Bituin.”

Nevertheless, the band left their label and soldiered on, releasing the soon-to-be-a-classic “Buwan” as an independent single, along with an excellent video directed by Marie Jamora. As transcendent as “Buwan” was (and still is), it revealed an emerging depth and maturity in their songwriting, and foretold the brilliance of the subsequent new songs that the band would unleash during their gigs, including “One Ball,” “Contestant #1,” “Salapi,” and the consistent favorite “Beer.”

It’s 2005, and the Itchyworms have just finished recording their upcoming album, Noontime Show. None of us (except the band, their producers, their new label, Universal Records, and perhaps a few close friends) have heard it in its entirety, but from what we’ve seen and heard from them over the past year, we know it’s going to be an ambitious record, light years beyond Little Monsters. But the ‘Worms have not gone Pink Floyd on us; the music remains accessible, and in some cases, the poppiest they have ever done. Like the song for the video that the band are launching tonight.

“Akin Ka Na Lang” is the first single from Noontime Show, and is as infectious as the flu in July. The song’s melody and vocal harmonies are spot on, and its charming and witty lyrics, sung from the point of view of a jealous guy, are universally affecting without being crude. This is Perfect Pop as we know it, and as it should be.

The video was directed by Wincy Ong (former bassist of the band Narda), also a friend and a fan of the band, with Jamora as the director of photography. Besides the band, it also stars Ong’s bandmate Katwo Librando, the band’s engineer Shinji Tanaka (of Sound Creation Studios, where Noontime Show was recorded), and a cameo by a Soxy Topacio look-alike. Like the band members themselves, the video is hilarious, and like their music, very well-executed. And that’s precisely why we love the Itchyworms; they’re good and they know it, but they wholeheartedly make the effort to share their art with us, making sure that we “get it.”

Pedicab

Sagot Kita mp3
Konte na lang mp3
I want it now mp3
Dizzy boy mp3
Dito tayo sa dilim mp3
Bukas mp3
Bleached Steaks mp3

The Band

Women, with painted faces, caterwauling in distinctive falsettos. A tribe of young men, standing blithely aside, nods in silent approval. The lights glimmer. A wineglass shatters. A chant drones ever onward. That lone, unwavering voice, echoing through the occasional darkness. All in accordance with pulsating, four-on-the-floor drumming that threatens to overwhelm those of us not in synch with the communal heartbeat. THIS is the unadulterated essence of a Pedicab live performance: a near-religious experience with all the idiosyncrasies of a shaman’s ritual. And why not? For the last two years, this group has specialized in producing a riotous form Disco-Punk Music that has, quite often, induced even the most avowed non-believers to convert…to the dogma of the dance floor. Some have jokingly dubbed this unique sound “dunk.” I call it “drunk.” With ecstasy, that is. Being a notorious wallflower, it is hard for me even to BEGIN fathoming WHY the sound Pedicab makes is so intoxicating. Could it be the quirky lyrics? The (almost) call-and-response dynamic that makes an exchange of energy between patron and performer so effortless? The “wham-bam-thank-you-ma’am” immediacy of each simplified guitar lick…every streamlined synth line…and all the Spartan austerity of a, nonetheless, ingenious cadence? Or could it be something else? A certain “X” factor? A kind of magic? A bit of “je-ne-sais-fucking-quoi?” We will never find the appropriate words.

What fans DO understand, however, is that this Music is a joyous assault on the senses. Like a skilled boxer, it bobs, weaves and strikes when you least expect. A tremendous part of this aural alchemy is, admittedly, down to the elements each Pedicab member provides. Multimedia artist RA Rivera, also known as “Just Tony,” is a cult hero among visually inclined artists. Mike Dizon, a.k.a. “Masterbeat (Extra Service),” is revered as the drummer of Pinoy Rock legends Teeth and Sandwich. Guitarist “J. Sonic,” baptized Jason Caballa, is best known for his riff-mongering with Indie stalwarts Twisted Halo. Lead vocalist and digital percussionist Diego Mapa, who plays for Monsterbot AND Cambio, is “Mappy”…or, alternately, “Daddy Maps” (having recently become a father). And “Sugar Raims?” Well, the synth player/vocoder experimentalist/backing vocalist really needs no introduction. Aside from his work with Cambio and Sandwich, he is a real live Eraserhead! Not a lineup to take lightly. Their 2005 debut album, the sensational “Tugish Takish,” speaks for itself. In addition, tracks have been laid down for a Jam 88.3 Christmas compilation, along with a “Musicians Against WTO” collection. The “intimidation” factor is at an all-time high. Indeed, how does one describe musicians who have written their own place in the (listen closely Atom and NU 107!) Pinoy Rock Hall of Fame? And although I have painstakingly crafted THREE disparate “profiles” in my attempt to describe Pedicab, I have come to realize that their own words would more than suffice

Hale

Blue skymp3
Shooting stars mp3
Broken sonnet mp3
Toll gate mp3

Biography

Hale now hits off melodiously well with a hopelessly romantic Filipino audience. Their impact is felt everywhere you hear their song “Broken Sonnet” and “The Day You Said Goodnight”-- the songs that have sent young hearts pumping into overdrive.

July 2004, when this four-piece rock alternative outfit collected themselves at the core of one goal to reach out the listening crowd and make them understand the value of the band’s musical sincerity. And sincerity is where Hale excels.

Hale, the band that promises to highlight their musical versatility and excellent vocalism in alternative rock genre and yet emanates a very sad undertone that they describe as “melodrama.” (melodious drama)

All from the southern part of the metro (Las Piñas, Alabang and Parañaque), Hale is composed of Champ Lui-Pio’s (lead vocals and guitars) heart-on-sleeve vocals and the group’s songwriting exude feelings and melody, much to the delight of the melancholic youth in search of a like-minded voice. Roll Martinez (guitars and vocals) with his lyrical powers, believes that there’s so much to spell in words through songs where exudes a very ironic yet compelling poetic piece, “Broken Sonnet”—the band’s first single with EMI Music. In synch with Sheldon Gellada’s expertise on bass, he also contributed heartfelt and experience-based songs infectious to his personal musical influences that excel in his instrumental virtuosity to grandiose rock. And with then-sessionist Omnie Saroca on drums, an artist whose music used to steep in cool mainstream reggae now switched to melodic rock.

The band then meet at an epicenter—music. Two of the members, Rol and Sheldon, are Music majors at the University of Santo Tomas (UST). They eventually became friends with Champ, who also been exposed to music scene while he was young and being the son of a respected songwriter-producer. Lastly, Omnie, before has started jamming with other bands and that have helped him develop his talents in his chosen craft.

The band signed in November 2004 with EMI Philippines after being snubbed by other recording companies. But EMI took the chance of giving these young prowesses of sincere music begin their journey. At the first quarter of 2005, their tragic love song “Broken Sonnet” became the carrier single in EMI’s Full Volume, a collection of Pinoy rock music-- where the pioneers meet protégé…Hale graced the album with local rock titans like Bamboo, Sugarfree, Sandwich, Urbandub etc.

The mid-tempo ballad “The Day You Said Goodnight”, which served as their first single for their first and self-titled album, have massively dominated the local charts and wowed a crowd largely comprising college kids even before the release of their first album. Their self-titled album under EMI Music Philippines had already given an impressive record sales and radio airplay since its release in May 2005 and turned Platinum record in August and Double Platinum in November 2005. Second single followed with KAHIT PA and KUNG WALA KA came next.

Hale have conquered 2005 with songs that gladly scaled the heights of radio charts, music channel charts and stage performances across the nation as that first single THE DAY YOU SAID GOODNIGHT hold its lock at no.1 and endeared the band to both critics and listeners alike.

Rivermaya

Kisap mata mp3
Ulan mp3
Himala mp3
If mp3
You'll be safe here mp3

Biography

Rivermaya is a Philippine rock and alternative band formed in 1993. The band has produced a number of platinum albums and no.1 hits through its more that 10 year reign in the Philippine music industry. Dubbed as the “Banda Ng Bayan”, the band has been an icon to new and uprising bands. They spawned the hits such as "Ulan", "Kisapmata", "Elesi", "Nerbyoso", "Faithless", "Balisong", and "Inosente Lang Ang Nagtataka". The band has also been awarded and given numbers of recognitions to different music awards and spectacles. Two of their videos are currently introduced internationally for being chosen by Star World channel.

With the rise of the band revolution in the Philippines in the early 1990’s, with a number of bands coming out with rock and alternative singles, producer and manager Lizza Nakpil and prominent director, Chito Roño decided to manage a yet unnamed band. Rico Blanco auditioned to play rhythm guitars and keyboardist while Nathan Azarcon presents his bass guitar skills to the management. The two primarily became the first members of the band. The initial line-up was then with guitarist Kenneth Ilagan and drummer Rome Velayo, with Blanco doing vocals. Jessie Gonzales was recruited to handle the role of lead vocals while Velayo was replaced by youngster, Mark Escueta. The group in constant member changes then was replaced with Perfecto de Castro on lead guitars and Francisco “Bamboo” Mañalac as the lead vocals.

The five members (Blanco, Mañalac, Azarcon, Escueta, and de Castro) formed the original Rivermaya. Rivermaya was chosen among the hundreds of possible names suggested by Blanco, who at that time was very fond of the name of another band, Rizal Underground establishing a nationalistic fervor on music. Rivermaya was taken from a Mr. Bean scene where his adventures led him to Riviera Maya, catching Blanco’s attention.

Calla Lily

<img style="FLOAT: left; From the record label that produced the country's top great bands Cueshé, 6cyclemind, and Brownman Revival, Sony BMG Music Entertainment introduces another discovery that will set another trend in the music scene in the person of "CALLALILY" armed with their debut album "Destination XYZ."

Their first single "Stars" is fast-gaining heavy airplay on top radio stations and its music video can now be seen on favorite music channels. "Stars" was a successful single, peaking at #1 on MYX, it was also nominated as Favorite Song at the MYX Music Awards 2007. Their 2nd single "Take My Hand" peaked only at #3 on MYX but their 3rd single "Magbalik" scored them another #1. As of April 22, "Magbalik" spent 7 consecutive weeks at #1, being the successor of "Stars", which spent 3 consecutive weeks at #1.

They belong to a group of talented bands who feed us with their purely cool songs. Yael was then the frontman of a rock band called White Chapel together with some talented individuals in Ateneo High School. Nevertheless, he decided to form a band with Gosh and two other members of the theater guild. They named the group Sponge after R.S. Surtee's Mr. Sponge's Sporting Tour. The band won in several high school competitions boosting their popularity not just in their school but in other campuse

Some of the members of the old lineup left and were replaced by Christopher "Chris" Cantada and Erwin "Armo" Armovit. The latter is the guitarist of Sponge's brother band Rampqueen. Raymond Fabul another batchmate, began to manage both Sponge and Rampqueen. Later however, they learned about a Detroit grunge band already using the name Sponge. "But we wanted to keep the word Sponge in our band name because people have already associated us with that name," according to Yael. "So we decided to add 'Cola', since it's an easy enough word to remember." Sponge Cola was officially born in summer of 2002

They came up with a self-titled album in the last quarter of 2003 containing five original songs: Lunes, A Tear, Saturn, Cigarette and Jeepney. The two songs penned in the vernacular were what made the band catch the public's attention. Lunes, written by Gosh, begins with a catchy bossa nova-esque beat that suddenly shifts to a heavy rock riff, a nuance in arrangement which surprisingly served the song superbly. Second single Jeepney was written by a classmate for a school project back in 2001 and is a reminiscent piece on young love during simpler, happier times. The song showcases Yael's vocal range; that is, his uncanny ability to shift from mellow to screamo

Through this album, Sponge Cola got extensive airplay from several local pop and rock radio stations, which helped broaden their fan base across the nation. A bootlegged copy of their version of Madonna's "Crazy for You" even ended up on the Internet and became so big an underground hit, some listeners believed it was a Sponge Cola original. Though this misconception has been instrumental in increasing Sponge Cola's popularity, the band has since aimed to transcend the stigma of being a cover band. They pushed their original songs to the forefront, and public response to the band became better than ever; the magic had already begun

Finally, Sponge Cola releases their second album entitled Transit that make a huge noise, this album gathered a gold record award after less than three months of its release. Bitiw the carrier single of the album, even broaden the band's popularity in last quarter of 2006. Tuliro the second single even make a noise in the first quarter of 2007.

Brownman Revival

<img style="FLOAT: left; with rides and games to choose from. Indeed life for the band has become a joyride especially since becoming a byword from every Totoy and Nene to every Juan and Maria and from barangays to cities and provinces with their string of hits. First is their infectious remake of the Eraserheads original “Maling Akala.” Who could ever forget its wacky music video that aroused the curiosity of many? So notorious and evocative that the second single-- the groove-worthy “Lintik” was turned into its sequel. Next are their takes on the 70s hits “Binibini” and “Ikaw Lang Ang Aking Mahal.” All these singles came from “Steady Lang,” their certified gold debut album that changed how people look at reggae music.

This year, the 9-piece band composed of Dennis (drums), Jao (bass), Onard (keyboards), Januarie (percussions), Alphy (guitars), Jayson (trombone), Jojo (sax), Ambet (trumpet) and Dino (vocals) is not just content in going steady and resting on their laurels as they return with their much anticipated second album “Ayos Din.” Like the festive mood of their album cover and title, the songs in this sophomore outing deserve the typical positive colloquial description “ayos.”

“Ayos Din” is bannered by the carrier single “Sorry Na, Pwede Ba,” now a heavy favorite on radio and whose music video recently premiered on MYX. Originally by Rico J. Puno, Brownman Revival adds reggae feel and sensuality to the song that was once popular in the 70’s. Rico J adds his signature wit as he makes a special appearance in a special bonus track version of the song. Then there’s “Muli,” a rare collaboration with its original singer Ramon “RJ” Jacinto. The legendary singer/guitarist willingly lent his talent to play the guitars ala Carlos Santana in the song. Also included are “Yakap Sa Dilim,” “Reggae Fever” (originally was “Disco Fever” in the 80s and was written by Vic Sotto and Joey de Leon with excerpts of the song “Hinahanap-hanap Kita” by Rivermaya).

If the previous record was mostly comprised of revivals, the band pushes the envelope and unleashes their creativity further, composing half of the songs in this 14 track album. Tracks like “Kapit,” “Walang Kasing Sarap,” “Paikot-Ikot,” “Bitin,” “Diskarte,” “Ikembot Mo” and “Lasapin” truly keeps the spirit of reggae alive—Pinoy style.

Sugarfree

Burnout mp3
Makita kang Muli mp3
Prom mp3
Tulog Na mp3

Biography

Sugarfree is a sleeper little famous band that is quite known for huge, almost anthemic hits. They first burst into the mainstream with the highly successful single, “Telepono,” which is included in the critically and commercially successful debut album, “Sa Wakas.” Composed of Kaka Quisumbing on drums, Jal Taguibao on bass, and Ebe Dancel on vocals, Sugarfree is a three-piece band heavily influenced by the likes of Popsicle, Oasis, and Radiohead. As songwriters, Ebe likes the style of Sheryl Crow and the Counting Crows.

In January 2003, the little known Sugarfree back then quietly released their debut album “Sa Wakas.” The band endured a terrible two-year worth of wait and an even more terrible tussle with their previous label just to be able to release the album. In the launch, “Sa Wakas” reportedly sold out in a span of 11 minutes. The collective sighs of relief from the band and their supporters created a huge holler in the mainstream music scene, opening the doors once again to the so-called underground band scene. Sugarfree then was still enjoying the ride with their original drummer, Mitch Singson.

Soon, a string of Sugarfree songs lorded the airwaves: “Telepono,” and then came the very sad “Mariposa,” then “Hintay” and then finally “Burn Out.” Well written tragic lyrics, easy and happy melodies capture the hearts and ears of the many believers and supporters of the band. Something about their laid-back stance, their easy-going attitude and the tragic, mundane love stories make them very easy to relate to and appealing—even if they aren’t the best looking rockstars the scene has to offer.

In the NU 107 2003 Rock Awards, Sugarfree went home huge winners. They brought home two huge awards that night: the Best New Artist and the Album of the Year accolades for Sa Wakas.

Sugarfree’s band history is quite simple. In college, Ebe went through a succession of bands. Everything was going mediocre with nothing really breaking out. Ebe was ready to call it quits, when he met Jal and Mitch. “Sabi ko sa sarili ko, huling subok ko na. Kung mag-fail ‘to, siguro hindi talaga para sa’kin,” Ebe shares, “then everything just fell into place.” The three easily penned songs, played in the underground, earned admirers and supporters, became a main stay in production nights such as Admit One in Freedom Bar.

They signed with Viva, but were put on a terrible wait list. Sugarfree, however, managed to record “Sa Wakas” with their “honorary member” Rivermaya frontman Rico Blanco. But when Rico had to leave to start work with Rivermaya, Dancel and studio genius Angee Razul carried on the mantle of production. After more than a year, Sugarfree was able to complete the 12 songs that were soon to become “Sa Wakas.” Then more waiting happened, the tussle between labels came to be, and then finally, the sweet success. Sugarfree sold records, performed countless gigs across the archipelago, and won awards.

More than a year has passed since “Sa Wakas” and Sugarfree is back at it again: back with their witty and smart lyrics, with their easy melodies, and now, with happy songs. Yes, after the sad “Sa Wakas,” Sugarfree comes up with “Dramachine,” album that contains happy and happy-go-lucky songs released in July 2004.

Dramachine contains common little fairy tales of the everyday common-tao. Unlike the first album, Dramachine is composed of happy, witty and smart lyrics, with their easy melodies. From the very sad “Kuwarto,” to the self-flagellating “Hari Ng Sablay;” as the second hit single to remembering prom nights in “Prom” and that fateful night of conversations as told in “Kuwentuhan,” Sugarfree takes on every possible subject common to anyone and everyone. With “Tao,” “Martir,” and the first single, “Sinta,” From those humble beginnings came; Sugarfree attained their gold status in September 2005 for their “Dramachine” album.

Sandwich

Bakit ang Babae mp3
Sugod mp3
2Trick Pony mp3
Masilungan mp3
Nahuhulog mp3

Biography

Probably one of the most prominent bands in the local band scene nowadays, Sandwich has been making music for six years now and still continues to live up to their passion-- a trademark of energetic performances.

Raymund (vocals, guitar), Diego (guitars), Mike (drums), and Myrene (bass) trace back as the original Sandwich members, alongside Marc Abaya (vocals), started February 1999. Formed by Diego and Raymund’s desire to work together in a band, Diego recruits former band mates Mike and Myrene while Raymund discovered Marc at a party while jamming to a Beastie Boys song.
On the very same year, Sandwich signed with BMG Records (now, Sony-BMG Music Entertainment) and released their debut album, GRIP STAND THROW. The carrier single was “Butterfly Carnival” and other hits followed such as “Maybe” and “R2D2”.

With an impressive effect on radio, it was inevitable that NU107 held Sandwich as one of the most precious bands for the year, giving them the three most coveted awards for 1999’s NU ROCK AWARDS, which includes: Album of the Year for “Grip Stand Throw”; Best New Artist; and Song of the Year for Butterfly Carnival.

The year that followed, 2000, the band are still happy to go along for their ride. Sandwich continued to be recognized by several award giving bodies. That time, they bagged Best Performance By a New Artist from AWIT AWARDS; and 99.5RT honored them as Best Alternative Artist.

Later that year, Sandwich released their second album, still under BMG, entitled FOUR TRACK MIND, with the hit singles “Food For The Soul”, “Hairpin” and “Love Is”. And as the process goes on, FOUR TRACK MIND was awarded by NU ROCK AWARDS as Album of the Year in 2001.

After two albums as a signed act under a major label, Sandwich goes independent in their third release with the album called THANKS TO THE MOON’s GRAVITATIONAL PULL under Play for Serve Records. The album was released early 2004, independently and been distributed by EMI Philippines. Efforts were returned and recognized richly as THANKS TO THE MOON’s GRAVITATIONAL PULL earned the title, Album Producer of the Year for 2004’s NU ROCK AWARDS.

Parokya ni Edgar

<img style="FLOAT: left; Parokya ni Edgar is Chito Miranda and Vinci Montaner on vocals, Darius Semaña and Gabriel CheeKee on guitars, Buhawi Meneses on bass and Dindin Moreno on drums. But beneath the silly gags and the punchlines, the Parokya Band has matured musically.

Chief lyricist and frontman Chito Miranda once declared: "Nagti-trip lang talaga kami, eh." But by jokester/slacker standards, this band is already an overachievers: six albums with an endless string of hit singles (including one that inspired a movie), loads of music awards, and a fan base that extends all the way from Aparri to Tawi-Tawi. What could be a greater feat than have the whole country chanting: "Hoy-hoy-hoy-hoy-hoy-hoy!"?

"Our music is happy Filipino chop suey music. Our musical influences are modern world music."
Countless Gold and Platinum Record Sales Awards, MTV Awards and Awit Awards trophies later, PnE is showing no signs of slowing down with their latest release Halina Sa Parokya . Like any other Parokya album; comic skits, spoofs and heaps of classic Parokya humor abound in Halina Sa Parokya. The idea for their album artwork was inspired partly by the Department of Tourism thrust to promote various tourist destinations and local festivities via their Wow Philippines campaign (if you can recall the TV advertisement which featured Regine Velasquez).

The album was also inspired by both the popular children's TV show Sesame Street and its local counterpart Batibot . Taking aloook at the album cover alone, you will laugh at the colorful characters Chito, Buwi, Vinci, Gab, Darious and Dindin portray!
And surely, too, it will be more obvious to tell why Parokya ni Edgar has been dubbed as "Pambansang Banda ng Pilipinas."

Imago

Spolarium mp3
Tara lets mp3
Taning mp3
Idlip mp3
Hiwaga mp3
Ewan mp3
Bathala mp3
Anino mp3
Alay mp3
Akap mp3
Sundo mp3

Biography

The band played a hypnotic set sans bassist Myrene Academia, but it was a rousing set nonetheless. Ever since the band’s maiden release, the album called "Probably Not, But Most Definitely," I have closely followed the band’s growth and maturity as their music evolved from Folksy Alt Rock music, to angsty alt rock (perhaps because of the departure of violinist Michelle Pritchard and the arrival of bassist Myrene Academia of the band Sandwich), and to a little bit more Pop sounding album than ever before.

Bannered by the album’s carrier single, Taralets, the band has effectively transformed their music in gaining newer grounds as this Pop-laden album charts new territories. While some critics would say that the band has left their indie roots, I beg to disagree. Blush may sound too mainstream compared to the two previous releases; But Blush has just the right mix of fusing their signature music with their new sound. Case in point, the song Lula. It kind of reminds us to some of the songs from their sophomore album Take Two. But they never entirely left their roots. They may sound new but that time tested Imago sound is still there.

I personally like the song Sundo. It magnificently showcases Aia’s vocal depth and her unmatched beauty in delivering a wonderful ballad. As always, Aia’s poetic lyrical prowess never fails to impress this writer and her songwriting combinations with drummer Zach Lucero (Sundo), and guitarist Tim Cacho (Under Repair) are among a few of the standout tracks in the album. Zach, I just have to say has definitely nailed his best musical work for the song Sundo. This could very well be what the song Akap was to their second album, even if it may sound tamer. Tim Cacho on the other hand provides a very soothing and steady music to Under Repair.

Cueshe

24 Hors age mp3
Can't let you go mp3
Never leave mp3
Ulan mp3

Biography

Just like their first single, "Stay," Cueshé defied the odds and struggles to be one of the biggest and most successful bands in the country today. In a span of one year, vocalist Jay Justiniani, guitarist and vocalist Ruben Caballero, bassist Fritz Labrado, lead guitarist Jovan Mabini, keyboardist Jhunjie Dosdos and drummer/band leader Mike Manaloto were thrown into a whirlwind of opportunities not any other new band had experienced. But their phenomenal success was not without its share of intrigues and controversies.

Since their first single hit the airwaves, critics and detractors tagged them as another one hit wonder. Rock fundamentalists considered them a pariah, called them a "phony," and a "sell-out." Insults, below-the-belt comments, false allegations, flaks, they got it. Cueshé was clearly one of the most misunderstood bands. But as the old cliché goes "you can't put a good man down." Despite the continuous dissing, hitting and criticism, the band remained steadfast, unaffected and concentrated on their music.

As they say "What doesn't kill you makes you stronger." Indeed, they are proving their critics wrong. Proof: after "Stay" came "Sorry." Then "Ulan" followed by "Can't Let You Go" and "24 Hours." All these singles from their debut album "Half Empty, Half Full" became chart-toppers. Celebrities, non-celebrities, children and adults alike hum their songs. The album likewise sold thousands, achieving the double platinum mark. Not bad from an upstart act. Accolades poured in, headlined by their big win at the 1st MYX Music Awards, bagging three major victories (Favorite Artist, Favorite Group and Favorite Song-for the song "Stay.") out of four nominations. Viewers of musical variety show SOP voted the band as Best Breakthrough Artist in 2005 and this year as Band of the Year. Cueshé recently bagged the Smart Texters' Choice for Hitmaker of the Year Award at the 2006 MTV Pilipinas Awards. They also became known for their flawless performance onstage the reason why their gigs remained packed and well-attended. And the latest-a Philippines tour beginning September culminating with a major concert at the Araneta Coliseum next year. "Where we are right now, we owe it to the fans," Mike said.

Fame might have brought about many changes but still, humility remains intact among the members, just the same during their struggle. Like the challenging years when Jay figured in an accident; to make ends meet, Mike sold cigarettes, Fritz drove a passenger jeepney with Jovan as his assistant. Or the moment they left Cebu and set foot in Manila, living in together in a small apartment surviving on canned goods and noodles.

Shamrock

<img style="FLOAT: left; The album's carrier single, "Ms. Serious", has been receiving extensive radio airplay in leading radio stations.Another Shamrock original original, "Alipin", is fast becoming a most requested item on the airlanes. There are indeed several hit potentials in the "Are You Serious?" album - "Dalangin (Kanta To)", "Waiting For Summer", "Up There", "Today", "In My Head", and "Radio Girl".

A Rey Valera classic, "Naaalala Ka", has been given a new wave feel through a contemporary arrangement and sleek vocal interpretation by the band's singer, Marc Tupaz. All the songs in the album are composed by Sam Santos except for "In My Head" by Marc Tupaz, "Waiting For Summer" by S. Blessed with both good looks and a heavenly voice, he was destined for a musical profession. He started lessons at Vocal Power in Los Angeles, California and continued voice lessons under the tutelage of Mrs. Vina Gonzales of the U.P. Conservatory of Music. His biggest influences are vintage rock n' roll songs, dating back to the Beatles.

With light alternative rock as the band's repertoire, Marc's voice is a fresh mix of the old and new combining standard vocal skills with the new sound of modern alterative rock; thus creating asound that is distinctively Sharmock.Bassist Sam Santos always dreamed of being a rock star; so he learned to play the bass at a very early age. The former Slapshock member has refined his guitar skills and has matured to be a dynamic performer. Everybody loves watching Sam onstage.Guitarist Nico Capistrano possesses a solid New Wave background. He has helped the band perfect their New Wave repertoire. Nico's contribution, however, extends to the alternative genre as well. His superb guitar solos accents Shamrock's music with that unique alternative flavor.Drummer Mike Magalong is a truly passionate performer.

Biography

Band fever has caught up once again the psyche of every Filipino. This year's scene promises to be more alive and exciting with the entry of another band that is making people stop, look and listen – to its wittily crafted music video shot in an LRT station video and to spoken words inserted in the middle of the song.

Welcome Rocksteddy, the band behind the song with the funny spoken word “Lagi Mo Na Lang Akong Dinededma.” The band composed of Teddy Corpuz (vocals), Christian Sandico (bass), Jowi Ramos (guitars/back-up vocals), Juven Pelingon (lead guitar) and Jeff Cucullo (Drums), has just released their debut album “Tsubtsatagilidakeyn” under 12 Stone Records and distributed by Sony BMG Music Entertainment.

If you wonder what the title of the album of the album means, it actually came from a popular children's game text where you bundle up 3 cards – your card, your opponent's card, and a mediator card to decide the winner. You then flick them into the air, and then let them land on the floor. “Tsub” means the card is face down, “Tsa” means face up, and “tagilid” is for those times when the card lands arguably face up/down... “Akeyn!” is just what you shout out when win the pot (of more cards). The rules on who wins the pot vary, but it's all the same fun.

The album features all Tagalog songs that speaks of friendships, emotions, love and relationship like “Kung Wala Na Tayo,” “Gising Na”, “Magpakailanman,” “Tara ,” “Super Nova,” “Bale Wala,” “Playing Safe” and the carrier single “Lagi Mo Na Lang Akong Dinededma.”

This former Christian band describes their music as direct and straightforward. “Most of our songs are based from personal experiences. Parang plain conversation for someone or an acquaintance.”

“Tsubtsatagilidakeyn” presented by 12 Stone Records, Sony BMG Music Entertainment, PLDT MyMusic and Budget Cards, Mossimo, Power Peel, The Philippine Star, Pulp and Belisima Salon, was launched last Thursday, January 26 at Mugen Bar and Restaurant.
<div ms;font-size:85%;">

Join The Club, a fraternity of four twenty-something seniors, are recruiting OPM-loving listeners who’d want nothing more than to live and learn from the band’s punk-rooted, alternative pop confessions of sullied love.

New initiates may have already been taken by the new band’s chart-climbing hit, “Lunes” which is hungrily devouring air time on FM radio stations across the country. “Matatanggap ba ako/ kung magbabalik sa iyo/ sakit ng sinapit ay/ please ‘wag nang magtampo/ wala man ako nagawa,” sings 23-year old vocalist/ guitarist Biboy Renia is his signature soprano, which is earnest rather than emo-whiny. It’s a fresh, new approach; one that combines the band’s affection for story-telling-adapted from the band’s addiction to campy 70s rock (Cinderella, VST, The Boyfriends, and Company) with Beatle-esque/Beach Boy sounds, indie pop, and punk’s subgenres.

“It’s upbeat, kasi punk-rooted. But it’s ironic because our songs are about love’s fallouts,” explains Biboy, whose eyes are hiding behind his dad’s retro aviator shades. Adds Join the Club’s giddy 21-year old drummer Pao Santiago, “The songs come naturally because these are based on our personal experiences, kaya madaling maka relate sa mga kanta namin.”

That’s right. All 12 songs on their debut album, Nobela, are fuelled by each of the guys’ rather disastrous experiences with the L-word. But they’ve managed to translate all their chest pains into melodious songs energized with sugar-high tempos, strong guitar riffs and soft/loud passages. “Mahiwaga” for instance, was already the infatuation song of choice for bloggers back when they released the cheeky punk pop track in 2001, the year Join the Club was formed.

Over the next two years, a few forays with underground bands with names like Extra Rice and Toilet Kamote, and an eye opening gig in the underground Bulacan punk scene (“Kumbaga pumunta kami sa Holloween party na hindi kami naka costume,” says Congie Lulu, the band’s cute 23-year old bassist, “Pagkatapos n’un, hindi na kami bumalik. Na culture shock kami.”), the college friends soon found themselves joining band competitions. “Win or lose, we were just happy we could play,” says soft-spoken guitarist/back-up vocalist Migs Mendoza. But the band’s perseverance paid off in more tangible ways. Join the Club’s 2003 win in one such competition enabled the guys to record a four-track EP, which soon landed in the lap of Redrum Music’s Guy Ilacad, who signed the fledging band to his upstart label in July 2005 and, together with Warner Music Philippines, enabled Join the Club to put out their emotionally-driven debut album.

Besides the riot of songs, like the scornful, furious and totally enjoyable “Walang Pakialam,” ballads like Mig’s fave, “Emotional Overdose” (“Kwento yan ng ex ko, at saka ako kumanta d’on”) and Biboy’s beloved “Nobela” (“Iyan ang pinaka importanteng kanta sa personal stage ng buhay ko”) also get high marks in the heartache department. “Nobela” even gets a few extra gold stars for its languid, 60s pop feel. You might even say “Nobela” sounds like an excellent anime slow song, only, of course, it’s sung in the Filipino vernacular. We’re sure the serenade scores pretty well with the girls, too: “at aalis, magbabalik/ at uuliting sabihin/ na mahalin ka’t sambahin/ kahit muling masaktan.”

True Faith

<img style="FLOAT: left; As they grew older as a band and new groups have surfaced, the band had a hard time to reconcile their own impressions of maturity and reasons for them to continue. But Truefaith created STRAY TO BE FOUND and have done wonders now that they've discovered renewed energy.

The band’s vocalist Medwin Marfil explains, “We definitely had to "lose ourselves" for awhile to find our soul as a band and to know our place in the music world. It's based in my personal philosophy that a person can only come to know himself if he strays into the unknown. We didn't know for a couple of years or so what we had to do and how to do it. It's time for people to "find" Truefaith again and rediscover our music!”

SAYANG ANG LAHAT, the album’s single and now playing on radios, as described by the band as “The first single might seem like song about a romantic love lost at first hearing. That is what should appeal anyone to it. Everyone could love any song that has that theme. But actually anyone could attribute their own subjective view of what is about in that song because basically it speaks of regret of something that failed. Despite its danceable beat it is melancholic and bitter but not wholly grieving.”

“This album was generally done at home. Except for my vocal tracks and drum tracks everything was recorded and mixed in a PC. There was definitely more attention to detail since there was less pressure with time and it was way cheaper. This is the first time that the album was produced by a band member. Bimbo, our bass player has done tracks for other artists like Anton Ramos and Kyla and with this album his expertise in producing and arranging music shines brilliantly. True Faith"s trademark folksy pop is still evident here. There's grittier guitar work here courtesy of new guitarist Kenneth Ilagan who used to play for Violent Playground. New drummer, Benedict Esguerra debuts in this album as well, adding his groovier drum playing to the mix,” Medwin shared.

Kamikazee

<img style="FLOAT: left; The experience is brought on by one of the scene’s most explosive bands… Kamikazee, and the name speaks volumes of what the band is all about, pure passion and fearless.

Kamikazee’s music ranges from the laugh out loud kind to the heartbreaking, with words that speak of rare creativity, unique wit and a collective heart that tells the truth with reckless abandon. Kamikazee is Allan “Bords” Burdeos on drums, Jason “Puto” Astete on bass, Led Tuyay on guitars, Jomal Linao on guitars and second vocals, and Jay Contreras who does his own stunts while on lead vocals, all from the U.P. Fine Arts Department, brought together with a common love for fun, and music which serves as the soundtrack for every prank, problem, break up, and breakthrough. They listen to the likes of Parokya Ni Edgar, Cheese, The Eraserheads, Deftones, New Found Glory, Slipknot and Pantera.

Kamikazee played their first gig in 2000 as “boy band”, which led to opening for friends, Parokya Ni Edgar, eventually changing their name to “Kamikazee Cornflakes” later on shortened to just Kamikazee. After months of playing all over for any imaginable crowd, they finally landed their first record deal in 2001. Their self titled debut released in December 2002, included hits like “Chinelas” which went to #1 in 2003, “Ung Tagalog” which was recognized as Best Alternative Recording by the Awit Awards, and their cover of the Britney Spears song “Lucky” which won as Best Music Video at the MTV Pilipinas Awards 2003. In the same year, Kamikazee was the Listener’s Choice at the 2003 NU 107 Rock Awards, with Allan Burdeos as the Drummer of the Year. Two years later at the 2005 NU 107 Rock Awards, they were hailed as the year’s Best Live Act, proving themselves later that night, with an electrifying performance of “Chicksilog” which was also nominated as Song of the Year.

“Chicksilog” peaked at #1 at NU 107’s Midnight Countdown finishing at the #9 spot of their 2005 Yearend Countdown. It also crossed over to other radio stations and the hilarious music video was on regular rotation in music channels like MYX and MTV. In late 2005, Kamikazee unleashed “NARDA”, a metaphor for the subject of true love that is tragically unrequited. The single caught on like wildfire and is currently flying to the top of the charts. The “Narda” music video directed by Ace Enriquez recently premiered on MYX with great reviews, making their media presence even more felt. “Chicksilog” and “Narda” are both part of Kamikazee’s latest album under Universal Records called “MAHAROT”, which best describes the band’s playful, restless energy, and wild imagination. The album produced by Jomal Linao and co-produced by Allan Burdeos, Jonathan Ong of Sonic State, 8 Toleran of Cheese, and award winning producer Angee Rozul has 15 all-Tagalog tracks which includes the acoustic version of “Narda”.

Don’t be fooled by the album cover, Kamikazee has definitely matured musically, evident in all tracks crafted with experience, sacrifice, heart and soul from every single member and the result falls nothing short of alchemy. Formed in 2001, 6cyclemind is composed of Ney Dimaculangan on vocals, Rye Sarmiento on rhythm guitars, Chuck Isidro on lead guitars, Bob Canamo on bass, newest member Tutti Caringal on drums and of course, the infamous 6th member, manager Darwin Hernandez… Just 6 regular guys inspired by music and who desired to make music of their own.

Now, 6cyclemind has become one of the biggest bands in our country today. Spawning hit after hit, they have justifiably been called "a hit song-making machine" many times. With three successful albums already under their belt, debut album Permission to Shine, sophomore release Panorama, and their newest release, simply
titled Home, their songs have been dominating the airwaves as well as topping video hit charts everywhere, too. It's impossible for anyone to not hear their songs and get hooked. More so impossible for anybody to not know them since their faces are all over the metro, too (for Tanduay's Rhum on the Rock billboards). With product endorsements, several TV commercials, numerous videos ad hits, 6cyclemind is really one of the more popular household names now in the local music scene today.

With their latest offering Home, 6cyclemind takes a break from all the songwriting and gives their fans and listeners a refreshing change. Although widely known for their original songs, the band took a surprising change in direction by releasing an all covers album in Home. From pop, rock to new wave and from foreign to OPM artists, the newest album is a collection of the band's favorites. Home has already spawned 2 quite successful hits already with first single 'Prinsesa' which is actually a local rock legend Teeth original and their current single 'Upside
Down' from Two Minds Crack that's been enjoying generous and consistent airplay both on radio and TV nowadays.

With songs that get you hooked even after just one time of listening to it, 6cyclemind is gifted with the ability to just really connect with their listeners through their songs. Creating music out of the most mundane experiences like going on a road trip, missing someone, sudden break-ups, or just even being there for a friend, they are able to reflect day to day life in their songs making it easy for listeners to relate. Barkada anthems such as Sandalan, Sige, Trip, and catchy love songs Umaasa, Biglaan, I, and Paba all exemplify the voice of today's generation, which is why they are often referred to as the "barkada band". In between their many gigs, TV guestings, shoots, interviews, out-of-town shows and even pre-production and writing sessions for songs for their next album, the boys of 6cyclemind take a break to answer some of Clickthecity's burning questions and sheds light on things like their new album, their band history, their secret band 'crushes', band rumors and how they keep sane despite their insanely busy lives, only here on City Sessions.

Bamboo

<img style="FLOAT: left; It all starts with a dream. Taking inspiration from all the demigods that sang to them from their crabby speakers, spewing wisdom and good vibes out of worn out cassettes long before an apple gave birth to a pod, they pick up an instrument, string up some riffs, weave some melodies, sing a few songs. Before they knew it, they had sold their soul to the music, and the mistress exacts a high price. The goal—first, an album; a single on radio; do some gigs; then dream of playing the foreign shores. The cycle should grow exponentially, in theory. Yet as the proverb goes, many are called but only a few (and fewer still) are chosen.

Bamboo’s story is one that many admire and aspire to duplicate, yet would never fully admit. It started with a simple phone call. Bamboo Mañalac, who at that time had been living and studying in the U.S., made a call to an old friend back home who, he learned, had quit the band he had once fronted. Nathan Azarcon, in fact, had been out doing his own thing for almost a year already, and had been playing with bands like Kapatid and Makatha

“At some point in the conversation, I asked him, what do you think of me going back there,” Bamboo recalls.

Mincing no words, Nathan bluntly tells his former band mate, “Things are tough here right now. It’s not as easy as you think. The music scene isn’t up to what you remember before.”

But once their conversation turned to music, it was like old times. “The funny thing, even when we were miles apart, we were still pretty much listening to the same thing,” says Bamboo. And the devil inside stirred once again.

Nathan then tapped Kapatid band mate, guitarist Ira Cruz, and drummer Vic Mercado. Both had played in Passage before, and by then had been gigging as the rhythm section for Makatha with Nathan. As soon as Bamboo got back to Manila, he went to see Makatha in the now-defunct Sanctum bar in Intramuros; the following day, only they bore witness to the makings of a new band, highlighted by a pivotal jam session in a small studio in the house of Ira’s dad, the latter himself a pillar of Pinoy music as the sax player of the band Anak Bayan. “From that first jam, we knew it was something special… saan-saan na pumupunta ‘yung mga kanta,” Bamboo remembers
